A Romanian trio (Livio, Roby and George G) called Monochrome have been declared Global Winners of Heineken Thirst Studio 2006. Here you can check out how they got on at the lavish all-star event, held last month in Las Vegas.
Beating off formidable competition from seven other finalists (including Pioneer Masterclass students Ali Ajami and Sunscreen, on DJsounds here ), Monochrome’s winning track, Pearl, stole the show at the stateside event. Taking place at Tao Night Club/Tao Beach, the three-day celebrations starred all the regional winners, as well as globally renowned talents such as Erick Morillo and Paul Oakenfold. What’s more, hip-hop maestro Kanye West was also present during proceedings to host a high caliber party at Tao. After being hailed Thirst Studio Global Winners AND winners of The People’s Choice Award, Monochrome were whisked off into a studio with the award-winning DJ/producers Gabriel and Dresden. As a team, they then re-tweaked Pearl before presenting the remix later at Tao. As part of the winners’ packages, Monochrome received prizes from Pioneer that included two DVJ-1000 CD/DVD decks. They will also get to play at future Heineken Music events. Says Monochrome’s DJ Livio: “We are looking forward to testing the new Pioneer DVJ Products that we won, so we can use now a mixture of sounds and videos, a cool improvement of our sets.” Having previously caught the eye of industry bigwigs like Steve Lawler (who has used their productions in his mixes), and following on from the success of 2005 Global Winner, DJ Ronin from Denmark, Monochrome’s future now looks more colourful than ever!
